Quote: | Graves Registration Service U.S. Army Silent Film
Historian Mitchell Yockelson and French World War I battlefield guide Guillaume Moizan provided commentary for several silent U.S. Army Signal Corps films recorded shortly after the end of World War I. Restored by the National Archives, these films document the work of the Graves Registration Service, which moved the remains of fallen U.S. soldiers from temporary graves to ships for transport back home, or to newly constructed American cemeteries in France near the battlefields. Also shown is a silent 1955 film documenting the dedication of the Marine Monument in Belleau Wood, France. |
